Market Information on Algeria & trade mission opportunities

29 01 2015

Market Information on Algeria:

There is a strong and flourishing commercial relationship between the UK & Algeria: in 2013 UK export trade was worth £529 million. This is second only to Egypt in North Africa and is the UK’s fourth largest market in Africa. The UK’s strong reputation for quality, innovation, customer service and know-how means that Algerians are keen to see more UK companies doing business there.

In August 2014 HMRC and the Ministry of Finances in Algiers completed negotiations to sign a Double Taxation Agreement between the UK and Algeria. It is expected to come into force in January 2016 Algeria is reputed to be a challenging market to enter, however perceived hurdles are often similar to those experienced elsewhere. The UK and Algeria have worked together to reduce some of the bureaucracy and as a result exports have risen.

Algeria is a country where the personal touch and personal contact matters. Those wishing to enter the market, to re-establish or further relationships, and the seasoned exporter can all benefit from the networking opportunities and support offered to delegates by trade missions arranged by UK government or trade associations.

Upcoming trade missions:

The Middle East Association (MEA) will be leading a multi sector Trade Mission to Algeria in 22 - 26 February 2015 which will aim to explore the potential for private sector engagement with the Algerian business community.  This Mission will be co-ordinated in partnership with CT Trade Missions and in conjunction with UKTI Algeria.
