"The most successful inward mission by far!"

13 05 2013

Business English UK Spring Inward Mission took place during
7th and 11th May. It was praised as one of the most
successful inward missions by far.

Different from other inward missions which generally aim for
agencies and educational consultants, this mission was specially designed for
HR and training professionals in the corporate sector. The mission programme therefore
is carefully designed so as to help delegates broaden their understanding of
the range of training the BEUK members can offer and the high standard service
of our sector.

The mission brought together 12 delegates from 9 countries including
Algeria, Belarus, Bosnia, Croatia, Japan, Latvia, Serbia, Slovakia and Ukraine.
Many delegates hold senior positions in some of the largest companies in their
countries.

The delegates started the visit at The London School of
English, where they received a taster course on Cross Cultural communication.
It was delivered by Ed Pegg - the recent winner of the EBET Award. The session
looked at how cultural difference could create barrier in our communications
and illustrated the English training is not just about grammars the tenses! At
International House, delegates were formally welcomed and greeted by Maurice
Cassidy, the Chair of BEUK and guests from Cambridge Assessment, as well as
other BEUK member schools. The delegates were treated a classic Chinese meal at
Shanghai Blu restaurant in Holborn. After dinner, the group was taken on a
short tour of central London.

On the following day, the delegates visited Canterbury
Language Training in Canterbury and English Language Centre in Brighton. They
received two further taster sessions on word connotation in business context
and what makes a good presentation by enthusiastic trainers from two centres.
These interactive sessions delighted the delegates where they found useful for
their own learning experience.

The mission continued west-ward, first the group visited
Language Specialist International in Portsmouth, then Anglo-Continental and MLS
in Bournemouth. Despite the high wind and chilly weather, the chic town of
Portsmouth and warm welcome from the school have left a deep impression with
everyone. At Anglo-Continental, the delegates had the opportunity to practice
their networking and social skills at the demonstration section. At MLS,
everyone was pleasantly surprised by receiving a lesson on Shakespare by Con
McCarthy who ‘would marry Shakespare if he could’!

The beautiful setting of Accent International has wowed the
delegates. The exclusive environment and high quality training programmes have
attracted a great deal of interests.

Torquay was the last stop of the mission and concluded the
mission in a high note. The group was warmly welcomed at the school and treated
a scrumptious home cooked lunch. Then they were taken on a guided tour to visit
some of the finest coastal sceneries in the country. At farewell dinner on the
evening of Friday 10th May, everyone shared their gratitude toward
BEUK members and views how this tour has helped them gain a new perspective on
what business English training is about and the potential benefits that could
bring to their organisations.

Yayoi Nakanishi from ALC Education said ‘the BEUK inward
mission was a wonderful experience for me, it brings significant benefit to our
organization’.

Nassim Berkane, the Recruitment & Training Manager of
Equatorial Coca-Cola Bottling company wrote ‘It was my greatest pleasure to
attend the BEUK Spring Inward Mission 2013. I wanted to seize the opportunity
to thank you again for the successful organization of the event and all the
very interesting visits and meeting that arranged. I am confident that, like
me, everyone found these meetings very remarkable and will certainly contribute
in building up learning and development agendas in the nearest future.’
